I am a pediatrician. During my pediatric endocrinology fellowship, I also became a parent. Despite being a pediatrician, I quickly realized that raising children is not something any textbook can truly prepare you for. Over the years, I struggled—again and again—with how to balance being present for my children, caring for myself, and pursuing a demanding career. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that parenting requires not only nurturing your children, but also maintaining your own identity and sense of self, both inside and outside of work.

In my professional life, I care primarily for children with chronic conditions such as diabetes. Through this work, I have seen how parents often find it especially difficult to separate the disease from the child, and how easily the demands of managing a condition can overshadow the relationship itself. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the delicate balance parents must strike—not just between work and home, but between caregiving and sustaining their own lives.

Inspired by these challenges, I began blogging as a way to share my journey and to help other parents navigate theirs. My goal is to offer perspective, encouragement, and practical insight to families working to balance the complexities of chronic illness, parenting, and personal identity.
